I am a middle age woman....self confessed work-a-holic with a million ideas to make money, sadly none that seem to work.
I work on my own small IT Business and as a Trainer part time for Government ATO.
My partner and the main reason for choosing this way of eating is a full time trainer within a Government ATO. Needless to say, our jobs aren't physically demanding but require lengthy hours...yep that "Time Poor" label applies here!
Sooooo! We are empty nesters. Kids all grown and flown the coup. I have to say we really love our time together, not to mention the little extra cash without the added "Kiddie" expenses. This new found freedom has seen us increase our dinning our adventures and embark on overseas destinations for our holidays yayayayaya!
BUT
With our new found freedom came devastating consequences. We ate glorious food in amazing restaurants and succumbed to our love of everything containing alcohol....everything! It started with a cruise and ended in Vegas. My partner fell seriously ill. Loss of eyesight, blinding headaches and the diagnosis of Diabetes (Type 2). It seems our new found care free lifestyle was killing us :(
We first started seeing dietitians, counting every carb, limiting our alcohol consumption (That was hard) trying to reverse the damage, which we did to a certain degree. With medical intervention, diet and exercise his blood sugar returned to normal and so did his cholesterol PHEW!
For those of you who know us as a couple, we love to socialize, party a little and vacation like a fair dinkum tourist, so staying on the "Right" eating path was super hard.
Enter my sister and her new work colleagues from South Africa and the Low Carb High Fat way of eating called "Banting". It messed with my head, totally contradicted everything I had been taught and told. Eat Fat??? and lots of it?? Really???
SO, this is going to be about my Banting journey. My quest to help my partner be released from his meds. I am goign to honest with my updates. I have terrible habits that have struggled during this last 5 weeks since changing my diet. If stumble I will be blogging about it. I will post pics, recipes, some created and links to others I find!
I hope my journey can then help others..........lets begin!
